Ok, so... I am now maintaining the VFP pages on the Wine appdb, a databas= e of=20 HOWTO's and information on the current compatability of certain windows=20 software running on Wine.
You can see the VFP page on the appdb at this link: http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?appId=3D296
The first change I made was to pull VFP out from Productivity/Databases a= nd=20 put it where it belongs in Development Tools. I also added entries for a= ll=20 versions and put up a small amount of info. on how to get started with VF= P on=20 Wine.
Anyway... on to the purpose of this message. The front page of the appdb= :
http://appdb.winehq.org
shows that dreamweaver is the top voted application. Now, voting for an = app=20 basically means that you want to see it working on Wine. Here is some in= fo=20 on voting:
http://appdb.winehq.org/help/?topic=3Dvoting
Dreamweaver has 33 votes, Access has 3 votes, and Visual FoxPro has 1 vot= e. =20 There is a list of the top 25 apps at:
http://appdb.winehq.org/votestats.php
If just three more people would hop through the rings to vote for Visual=20 FoxPro, we would appear on that list. Perhaps over time we can even beat= =20 Dreamweaver!=20
Now, I'm not sure how much weight being on this list gives, but at least = it is=20 another place to put VFP in lights. =20
Any takers? Oh, feedback on the layout of the VFP appdb pages is always=20 welcomed... I'll be working on that and trying to keep it updated as bug= s=20 are found and fixed.
Oh and also... I'll engage in some self-promotion now <g>: for an=20 introductory tutorial on how to get Wine set up and running VFP (Chet, yo= u=20 probably would have benefitted from this...), check out my March Foxtalk=20 article which you can access for free at:
http://www.foxtalknewsletter.com/
This is part one of at least a two-article series on running VFP on Linux= =20 using Wine.
I think VFP has a powerful place on the Linux desktop, as it fills a void= : no=20 other RAD IDE for Linux apps has the powerful VFP native cursor engine. =20 Linux is lacking in business apps and the Linux desktop is a growth marke= t. =20 There are real opportunities for us to fill some of those voids and to ge= t=20 VFP noticed again!
